NPC Encounter Calculator

Are you looking for a fast and easy way to create a well balanced Encounter for your players? Then the NPC Encounter Calculator is what you are looking for!

NPC Encounter Calculator is built for the Game Master. This tool is able to calculate the types of encounters the GM wants to have in their game. Just set the options for level, group size, and the difficulty in the NPC Encounter Calculator. Then the NPC Encounter Calculator will produce an encounter budget for the GM. The GM can then select the number of NPCs that they want for the encounter.

NPC Encounter Calculator Instructions

1.) Set the Party Level
Select the average player character level in the party that this encounter is designed for. If playing standard Atomic RPG System rules all player characters should be the same level.
2.) Set the Number of Player Characters
Select the number of Player Characters that are in the party that this encounter is designed for.
3.) Set the Difficulty of the Encounter

Use the slider on the NPC Encounter Calculator to adjust the encounter difficulty. Adjust the slider to the left to make it an easier encounter. Or adjust the slider to the right to make it a more difficult encounter. If the slider is not set to a certain difficulty some NPCs may not be available . (Champion or Boss)

4.) Choose the Amount of Each NPC Type

Increase or decrease the amount of each type of NPC to include in the encounter. Note that as the NPCs gain in strength they cost more for the encounter.

Minion is weaker than Grunt which is weaker than Specialist which is weaker than Champion which is weaker than an Epic Boss.

  • Minions = Cost of 2
  • Grunts = Cost of 5
  • Specialists = Cost of 10
  • Champions = Cost of 25
  • Epic Boss = Cost of 50

2 Grunts have the same value as 1 Specialist. 5 Grunts have the same value as 1 Champion. This represents the relative challenge of each type of NPC in the Atomic RPG System. By adjusting the numbers of each NPC up or down GMs can have a “difficult” encounter with either few NPCs or with many.

The Target Strength number and the Selected Strength message to the right should be used by the GM to help adjust the encounter. The goal is to match the Target Strength with the Selected Strength.

Do more, Create an Encounter Using These NPCs

Here are the optional steps if you want to create an Encounter with the NPC calculations you have made.

1.) Search NPCs
Click the Search Button with the NPC Type for your Encounter. This searches your NPCs and publically available NPCs. If you have 5 Grunts and 1 Specialist click the Grunt button or the Specialist Button in the NPC Encounter Search section.
2.) Add NPCs
Go through the search results and add an NPC that you want to use. First enter the amount you would like to add. Then click the + button to add it the My New Encounter section. Continue this process until you have all of the NPCs you need for the encounter.
3.) Click Create a New Encounter With These NPCs
Once you have all of the NPCs that you need to match the configuration you set, a button will appear to add this to a New Encounter. Click it to create a New Encounter with these NPCs on your account under My Custom Encounters. When saved successfully a link will appear which will take you to the Encounter Generator so you can finish completing the details of your new custom Encounter!
